Nino and None Rota designed by Ron Arad in 2002 for Cappellini.
The Nino and None Rota chairs reflect Ron Arad’s intellectual exploration of furniture forms and production processes. The twin-wall polyethylene chairs were constructed through a rotation moulding production. A single form was created within the mould, with a smooth inner face and textured outer skin. The design accommodates two chairs inversely orientated and these were then cut by hand from the form.
The chairs are named after the renowned Italian film composer, Nino Rota.
The Nino and None Rota were launched by Cappellini at the Milan Furniture Fair in 2002, but did not go into production. A small batch were exhibited and sold. The two chairs offered were from this launch. The Nino and None Rota formed part of the Ron Arad retrospective entitled Restless, exploring 30 years of the designer’s work.
