Form Group by Robin Day for Hille.
The Form Group carried through theories on flexibility and modular design that Robin Day had forged with his storage systems in the previous decade.
Using square-section tubular steel frames as a platform, a range of seat units, tables or storage units could be inserted to meet the requirements of the user. The system allowed for a wide range of configurations and offered customers great flexibility. The seat units were latex foam with the seat supported by exposed Pirelli webbing. The loose cushions could be mixed colours to create a dynamic aesthetic. The opportunity to adopt corner arrangements was a highly modern way of designing rooms and spaces.
The design was visually lightweight and the rectilinear form expressed international modernism.
The arrangement offered includes a specially sized platform, two armchair seat modules and a side table in mahogany with a white laminate surface. The units can be configured to allow the table to fit either end or between the seats.
The sofa was owned by an employee of Robin and Lucienne Day.
The Pirelli webbing has been replaced and new foam and upholstery in Bute Tweed.
