Capitol Complex armchair by Cassina.
Part of the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016 is Le Corbusier’s Capitol Complex, created in Chandigarh in 1951, the architectural icon was designed in celebration of the independence of a nation.
Among the furniture used in the Legislative Assembly building is this iconic lounge chair, an hommage to Pierre Jeanneret, featuring the same “V” support structure theme used throughout the buildings. It features exposed wooden parts where the rests are, connecting crossbars, and the joints that wrap across to connect the arms and the backrest. The generously padded armrests create the striking outline of a rounded, geometric shape. The stylish yet minimalist form includes padding in the seat and backrest, giving a sense of comfort.
